Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi pada era supermodernity telah mendorong perubahan pola aktivitas masyarakat menjadi lebih cepat, efisien, dan praktis. Di balik perubahan tersebut, muncul fenomena non-place (Marc Augé, 1995), yaitu ruang yang cenderung kehilangan identitas, makna, dan kualitas interaksi sosial. Kondisi ini mendorong perlunya pendekatan arsitektur yang mampu menghadirkan kembali kualitas place tanpa menghilangkan kebutuhan masyarakat modern akan efisiensi. Tugas Akhir ini bertujuan merancang ruang konsumsi yang mampu menyeimbangkan karakter place dan non-place melalui implementasi pada Pasar Blauran, Surabaya. Perancangan menggunakan pendekatan Concept-Based Framework dengan teori Non-Place sebagai landasan utama, didukung teori Place Attachment (Manzo & Devine-Wright, 2020) dan metode Narrative Architecture (Bleeckere, 2017) dalam membentuk konsep serta pengalaman ruang. Hasil perancangan diwujudkan melalui pengembangan Pasar Blauran sebagai ruang konsumsi yang mengintegrasikan aktivitas perdagangan, ruang komunal, dan sistem transaksi yang adaptif terhadap perkembangan teknologi, sehingga tetap mampu mendukung efisiensi sekaligus memperkuat identitas tempat, interaksi sosial, dan keterikatan pengguna. Perancangan ini menunjukkan bahwa kebutuhan masyarakat modern terhadap kecepatan dan kemudahan tidak harus menghilangkan kualitas place, melainkan dapat diintegrasikan melalui rancangan arsitektur yang menciptakan ruang yang lebih bermakna dan relevan terhadap perubahan pola hidup masyarakat.

Technological advancements in the era of supermodernity have transformed human activities, making them increasingly fast, efficient, and practical. Alongside these developments, the phenomenon of non-place, introduced by Marc Augé (1995), has become increasingly apparent. Non-place refers to spaces that tend to lack identity, meaning, and meaningful social interaction. This phenomenon suggests that the pursuit of speed and efficiency in contemporary life often comes at the expense of the human experience of place. Therefore, there is a need for an architectural approach that can restore the quality of place while continuing to accommodate the demands of modern society for efficiency. This Final Project aims to design a consumption space that balances the characteristics of place and non-place through its implementation at Pasar Blauran, Surabaya. The design adopts the Concept-Based Framework approach, using the theory of Non-Place as its primary foundation, supported by the Place Attachment theory (Manzo & Devine-Wright, 2020) and the Narrative Architecture method (Bleeckere, 2017) to shape the design concept and spatial experience. The design outcome is realized through the redevelopment of Pasar Blauran as a consumption space that integrates commercial activities, communal spaces, and technology-adaptive transaction systems, while simultaneously enhancing efficiency, strengthening place identity, fostering social interaction, and reinforcing users' attachment to place. This project demonstrates that the modern demand for speed and convenience does not necessarily diminish the quality of place; instead, both can be integrated through an architectural design that creates spaces that are more meaningful and responsive to contemporary lifestyles.
