Abstract

Pada sintesis studi literatur teori menghasilkan prinsip perancangan yaitu Supportive Design, Perception of Control and Privacy, Positive Distractions, Access to Social Support, dan Respite Environment.

The recovery process of mothers and infants is strongly influenced by the quality of the healthcare environment in which healing takes place. There is a significant relationship between the psychological and physiological conditions of users and the spatial characteristics of the healthcare facility, making responsive architectural design an essential factor in reducing stress, enhancing comfort, and supporting overall healing. This exploration aims to formulate architectural design strategies grounded in Environment–Behavior theory by identifying how spatial elements shape user behavior and their healing experience. Data were obtained through literature reviews, precedent analysis of mother-and-child healthcare facilities, and theoretical interpretation to derive relevant design principles. The exploratory method consists of three stages: the first stage involves selecting precedents of maternal and infant healing facilities; the second stage provides descriptive analysis of spatial characteristics and behavioral patterns in each case; and the third stage evaluates the application of Environment-Behavior principles such as sense of control, privacy, social support, and connection to nature within each building. The results indicate that the strongest applications are found in aspects of natural lighting and social support through family-centered spaces, while the weakest aspects relate to user control over the environment and spatial flexibility. These findings emphasize that healthcare architecture for maternal and infant recovery must prioritize adaptive spatial patterns, universal accessibility, and restorative elements to create environments that promote safety, comfort, and holistic well-being.
