Abstract

Cold storage is a storage system designed to maintain product quality by controlling temperature during the storage process. Temperature instability can reduce product quality; therefore, a reliable temperature control and monitoring system is required. This research designs and implements an Internet of Things (IoT)–based temperature control system for cold storage using a Raspberry Pi 5 as the main controller and DS18B20 sensors as temperature sensors. The system applies an on–off control method based on a predefined setpoint configured through a web-based dashboard, with data communication using the MQTT protocol. Temperature data are stored in a database as historical data for system performance analysis. The sensor testing results show good measurement performance. Sensor 1 produces an error value of 0.02 with a percentage error of 2% and an accuracy of 98%, while sensor 2 produces an error value of 0.03 with a percentage error of 3% and an accuracy of 97%. IoT performance testing shows an average data transmission delay of 00:00:02, indicating that the monitoring system can operate in real time. Load testing was conducted for 24 hours using pak choy vegetables and apples. The results show that the time required to reach the setpoint for pak choy is 1 hour 58 minutes, while for apples it is 2 hours 46 minutes. Overall, the system is able to maintain cold storage temperature stably according to the defined setpoint.
