Abstract

Perubahan kualitas batubara pada Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap (PLTU) menyebabkan peningkatan kebutuhan udara primer sehingga Primary Air Fan yang digunakan tidak lagi mampu memenuhi tekanan operasi yang dibutuhkan. Salah satu upaya untuk meningkatkan performa fan dilakukan melalui modifikasi geometri impeller, khususnya pada diameter outlet impeller (D₂), karena parameter tersebut memengaruhi distribusi aliran dan tekanan yang dihasilkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh variasi diameter outlet impeller terhadap performa centrifugal Primary Air Fan, meliputi tekanan total, daya input, daya output, efisiensi, serta distribusi tekanan dan kecepatan aliran di dalam fan. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode simulasi numerik berbasis Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) dengan pemodelan tiga dimensi menggunakan SolidWorks 2026 dan simulasi pada ANSYS Fluent 2025 R1. Variasi diameter outlet impeller yang dianalisis meliputi 1840 mm, 1880 mm, 1920 mm, 1960 mm, dan 2000 mm dengan parameter operasi lainnya dijaga konstan. Model simulasi divalidasi melalui grid independence test dan perbandingan dengan data existing. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan diameter outlet impeller meningkatkan tekanan total yang dihasilkan, dimana variasi D₂ = 2000 mm menghasilkan tekanan total tertinggi sebesar 13.551 Pa. Namun, berdasarkan kebutuhan operasional PLTU yang menghendaki peningkatan tekanan sekitar 5–15%, variasi D₂ = 1920 mm dipilih sebagai konfigurasi yang paling optimal karena mampu memenuhi target peningkatan tekanan tanpa memberikan kenaikan yang berlebihan, serta tetap menghasilkan distribusi aliran dan performa fan yang baik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa optimasi diameter outlet impeller dapat menjadi alternatif untuk meningkatkan performa Primary Air Fan sesuai kebutuhan operasional PLTU.

Changes in coal quality at Coal-Fired Steam Power Plants (CFPPs) have increased the demand for primary air, causing the existing Primary Air Fan (PA Fan) to be unable to provide the required operating pressure. One approach to improving fan performance is by modifying the impeller geometry, particularly the impeller outlet diameter (D₂), as this parameter significantly influences flow distribution and pressure generation. This study aims to investigate the effect of impeller outlet diameter variations on the performance of a centrifugal Primary Air Fan, including total pressure, input power, output power, efficiency, and the internal pressure and velocity distributions. A numerical simulation based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was conducted using three-dimensional models developed in SolidWorks 2026 and simulated in ANSYS Fluent 2025 R1. The impeller outlet diameters analyzed were 1840 mm, 1880 mm, 1920 mm, 1960 mm, and 2000 mm, while all other operating parameters were kept constant. The numerical model was validated through a grid independence test and comparison with existing operating data. The simulation results indicate that increasing the impeller outlet diameter leads to higher total pressure, with the 2000 mm impeller producing the highest total pressure of 13,551 Pa. However, considering the operational requirement of the power plant, which targets a pressure increase of approximately 5–15%, the 1920 mm impeller outlet diameter was identified as the optimum configuration. This configuration satisfies the required pressure improvement without excessive performance enhancement while maintaining favorable flow distribution and overall fan performance. The findings demonstrate that optimizing the impeller outlet diameter is an effective approach to improving Primary Air Fan performance in accordance with operational requirements.
