Abstract

Indonesia sebagai negara maritim memiliki potensi perikanan yang melimpah, salah satunya ikan bandeng (Chanos chanos) yang menjadi komoditas unggulan di Jawa Timur, khususnya Sidoarjo. Tingginya konsumsi bandeng menghasilkan limbah perikanan dalam jumlah besar, terutama berupa sisik yang diketahui kaya akan protein, mineral, dan kitin sebagai prekursor kitosan melalui proses deasetilasi. Kitosan memiliki berbagai sifat biologis seperti antimikroba, antijamur, biokompatibel, biodegradabel, serta berpotensi sebagai bahan dasar sediaan farmasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi salep kitosan dari sisik ikan bandeng terhadap pertumbuhan Candida albicans dan Aspergillus niger.. Dilakukan karakteristik morfologi secara makroskopis dan mikroskopis . Kitosan diformulasikan ke dalam sediaan salep dengan konsentrasi 0% (kontrol negatif), 5%, 10%, 15% dan betadine. Uji aktivitas antijamur dilakukan dengan metode cakram disk dan difusi sumur. Data karakteristik dan data Zona hambat dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kitosan murni sisik ikan bandeng dan salep kitosan sisik ikan bandeng tidak menghasilkan zona hambat terhadap C. albicans maupun A. niger. Sebaliknya, kitosan komersial (low molecular weight chitosan) masih menunjukkan aktivitas antijamur, sehingga efektivitas kitosan diduga dipengaruhi oleh karakteristik fisikokimia dan bentuk sediaannya.

Indonesia, as a maritime country, has abundant fishery resources, including milkfish (Chanos chanos), which is one of the leading commodities in East Java, particularly in Sidoarjo. The high consumption and processing of milkfish generate large amounts of waste, particularly scales, which are known to be rich in protein, minerals, and chitin as a precursor of chitosan through the deacetylation process. Chitosan exhibits various biological activities, including antimicrobial, antifungal, biocompatible, and biodegradable properties, making it a promising raw material for pharmaceutical formulations. This study aimed to investigate the effect of different concentrations of chitosan ointment derived from milkfish (Chanos chanos) scales on the growth of Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger.. The isolates were first characterized morphologically (macroscopic and microscopic). Chitosan was formulated into an ointment with concentrations of 0% (negative control), 5%, 10%, and 15%, along with betadine as a comparator. Antifungal activity was assessed using the disk and well diffusion method, followed by determination of inhibition zones. Morphological characterization and inhibition zones data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that pure milkfish scale chitosan and ointment did not produce any inhibition zone against C. albicans or A. niger. In contrast, commercial low molecular weight (LMW) chitosan exhibited antifungal activity, suggesting that the antifungal effectiveness of chitosan is influenced by its physicochemical characteristics and dosage form.
