Abstract
This research investigates the effectiveness of utilizing repurposed coconut husk biochar and eggshell powder as sustainable, thermally conductive fillers in Phase Change Materials (PCM) for Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS) applied to 18650 Lithium-ion batteries. Employing both experimental testing via the Transient Plane Source (TPS) method and numerical simulations using ANSYS Fluent, the study evaluates thermal regulation performance under high-load 3C constant current discharge conditions. Findings demonstrate that while coconut husk biochar provides rapid heat dissipation due to its porous carbon structure, eggshell powder enhances material structural stability and temperature uniformity. The optimal configuration was identified as the 28 wt% coconut husk biochar composite, which limited the battery peak surface temperature to 57.43°C, successfully maintaining structural integrity without liquid leakage. Ultimately, this research validates these bio-waste products as cost-effective, environmentally sustainable alternatives to conventional fillers, providing a practical engineering solution for enhancing battery safety and longevity
