Abstract

A lot of farmers in Indonesia still determine the crops to be planted based on experience and past habits, without considering the actual physical and chemical conditions of the land. Such practices risk lowering productivity if the chosen crops are not suitable for the soil characteristics, leading to disrupted growth. This research aims to design a crop recommendation system based on land conditions. The system integrates a soil sensor to acquire six parameters, namely temperature, humidity, pH, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. Data is transmitted via an RS485 line using the Modbus RTU protocol to the HF2211 module, which converts it into TCP/IP packets so it can be received by the server. The six parameters are then processed using the Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) method with criteria weights determined through the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), to produce land suitability scores for 22 crop commodities. The reference dataset for the requirements of each commodity is obtained from Kaggle. The entire data processing is run on a server, which is tasked with receiving, storing, and displaying the crop recommendation results on a web-based dashboard. Testing was conducted using two composite soil samples taken from different locations, namely a banana plantation in the Djuanda area, Surabaya, and a greenhouse in Sukodono, Sidoarjo. The test results show that the criteria weight calculation through AHP meets the consistency requirements with a Consistency Ratio value of 0.59% (less than 10%), while the reading of the soil sample taken from the greenhouse produces the highest suitability score for grapes at 68%.
