Abstract

Electronic waste (e-waste) is a global problem that continues to increase every year. One of the components of e-waste is Random Access Memory (RAM), which contains valuable metals such as gold (Au) that can be recovered through recycling. However, conventional gold extraction methods using cyanide or aqua regia pose serious risks to both the environment and human health. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a Reline-based Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES), which is a mixture of choline chloride and urea with a molar ratio of 1:2, as an environmentally friendly solvent for gold leaching from waste RAM. This study also investigates the effect of different stirring times (1, 3, and 6 hours) on the efficiency of gold extraction. The experiments were conducted using a solid content of 15%, a temperature of 80°C, and a stirring speed of 600 rpm as controlled variables. The experimental procedure included crushing and sieving the e-waste, soaking the samples in acetone to remove the epoxy resin layer, performing the leaching process using Reline DES, filtration, and gold recovery by precipitation using sodium metabisulfite. The samples were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), while the concentration of dissolved gold was measured using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The results obtained from AAS and ICP-MS showed that the highest gold concentration was achieved after 1 hour of leaching, reaching 0.3876 ppm with an extraction efficiency of 77.46%. After 3 and 6 hours of leaching, the gold concentration decreased to 0.2249 ppm and 0.0632 ppm, respectively, while the extraction efficiency decreased to 30.56% for DES 3. This decrease was likely caused by the saturation of the Reline DES solution, making it unable to maintain the gold (Au) complex in the solution as the contact time increased. These findings indicate that Reline DES has good potential as a green solvent for gold extraction from e-waste, with the optimum condition achieved at a shorter leaching time rather than a longer one.

Limbah elektronik, atau yang dikenal sebagai e-waste, merupakan masalah yang terjadi secara global dan terus bertambah. Salah satu bagian dari limbah ini adalah RAM (Random Access Memory). Mengandung logam berharga seperti emas (Au) yang dapat dimanfaatkan kembali melalui proses daur ulang. Namun, proses ekstraksi emas secara konvensional menggunakan sianida atau aqua regia berisiko tinggi terhadap lingkungan dan kesehatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) berbasis Reline, yaitu campuran Choline Chloride dan urea dengan rasio molar 1:2, sebagai pelarut ramah lingkungan dalam proses leaching emas dari limbah RAM, serta menentukan pengaruh variasi waktu pengadukan (1, 3, dan 6 jam) terhadap efisiensi ekstraksi emas. Penelitian dilakukan dengan solid content 15%, suhu 80°C, dan kecepatan pengadukan 600 rpm sebagai variabel kontrol. Tahapan penelitian meliputi penghalusan dan pengayakan e-waste, perendaman dalam aseton untuk menghilangkan lapisan resin epoksi, proses leaching menggunakan DES Reline, filtrasi, serta recovery emas melalui presipitasi dengan natrium metabisulfat. Karakterisasi sampel dilakukan menggunakan FTIR, XRD dan ICP-MS sedangkan kadar emas terlarut diukur menggunakan AAS. Hasil penelitian menggunakan AAS dan ICP-MS menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi emas tertinggi diperoleh pada waktu leaching 1 jam, yaitu sebesar 0,3876 ppm dengan efisiensi 77,46%, sedangkan pada waktu 3 jam dan 6 jam konsentrasi emas menurun menjadi 0,2249 ppm dan 0,0632 ppm dengan efisiensi menurun hingga 30,56% untuk DES 3. Penurunan tersebut kemungkinan disebabkan oleh kejenuhan larutan DES-Reline yang membuat tidak dapat mempertahankan kompleks emas (Au) dalam larutan seiring bertambahnya waktu kontak. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa DES Reline berpotensi sebagai alternatif pelarut hijau untuk ekstraksi emas dari e-waste, dengan kondisi optimum dicapai pada waktu leaching singkat, bukan pada waktu yang lebih lama.
