Abstract

Spare part inventory management plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of maintenance activities and the operational performance of heavy equipment companies. However, the company continues to face inventory-related challenges, including stockouts, overstocking and demand fluctuations, which lead to high inventory costs and declining service levels. According to the company's operational data, the service level decreased from 86% in the second quarter of 2024 to 85% in the second quarter of 2025, indicating the need for a more effective inventory control policy. This study aims to implement a Hybrid Inventory Management strategy by integrating the XYZ–FSN hybrid classification, Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), Safety Stock, Reorder Point (ROP) and Monte Carlo simulation to determine the optimal inventory policy based on the demand characteristics of spare parts. The results demonstrate that the hybrid strategy provides a more adaptive inventory policy by validating the ROP through Monte Carlo simulation. In the Preventive Maintenance category, three out of four categories (75%) required ROP adjustments, resulting in reductions in Total Inventory Cost of 13.92% for the XF category, 12.96% for the YF category and 4.60% for the ZS category, while the ZN category was already optimal based on the deterministic calculation and therefore required no adjustment. Meanwhile, all Corrective Maintenance categories showed that the initial ROP values were already optimal and did not require further modification. Furthermore, the inventory policies obtained from the simulation maintained a very high level of inventory performance, achieving a Fill Rate of 99.94%–100% and a Cycle Service Level (CSL) of 99.95%–100%. These findings indicate that the proposed hybrid strategy not only reduces inventory costs for categories requiring improvement but also validates inventory policies that are already optimal. Therefore, the integration of the XYZ–FSN hybrid classification and Monte Carlo simulation provides an effective, adaptive and efficient approach to supporting spare part inventory control decision-making in heavy equipment companies operating under demand uncertainty.
