Abstract

The process of filling out the Study Plan Card (Kartu Rencana Studi/KRS) is a critical activity because the commencement of lectures is determined by the completion of the KRS process. Once the KRS has been completed, it is processed into a study card, after which the lecture attendance list can be printed and the lectures can take place. At present, the KRS process is conducted on a self-service basis in the computer laboratory at the Faculty for nearly 6,000 students. With limitations in the number of personnel, available time, and computers, managing this process according to the academic schedule is not an easy task. Complaints frequently arise from students due to scheduling issues and long queues. To minimize these problems, a new online KRS application is required that can be accessed at any time during the designated KRS period and from outside the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Airlangga (FE UNAIR). In this system, students who access the scheduled KRS service first can have their requests processed accordingly. The objective of this thesis research is to ensure that the development of an online KRS application can be carried out properly in accordance with the required specifications, completion schedule, and budget. Therefore, a Software Requirements Specification (SRS) document based on IEEE 830-1993 is required. The SRS provides a basis for agreement between software users and software providers concerning the software product to be developed, ensures that all requirements are properly considered before the design process begins, reduces software development effort, minimizes redesign, recoding, and retesting at a later stage, facilitates corrections when problems occur, provides a basis for estimating costs and schedules, and serves as a basis for validation and verification.
