Abstract

Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) is a well-known model in inventory management. In the classical EOQ model, customers generally have to pay for the goods purchased immediately after receiving them. However, in current commercial transactions, suppliers may offer customers two alternative payment methods simultaneously, namely deferred payment and cash discounts. The problem addressed in this thesis is how to describe and implement inventory models, develop testing scenarios, formulate hypotheses, and draw conclusions regarding inventory models for immediate payment after delivery and for situations in which two alternative credit terms are offered simultaneously. Based on these conclusions, the next step is to determine which model is the most optimal for achieving the objectives of this research. This thesis compares the classical EOQ model, in which payment is made immediately after delivery, with the EOQ model using a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) approach when two alternative credit terms are offered simultaneously. The research begins with a literature study related to inventory models, followed by a description of the models. The models are then implemented, and data related to their implementation are collected. Based on the collected data, testing scenarios are conducted on the implemented models to generate relevant information. This information is subsequently analyzed and evaluated to determine which model is more optimal. The results indicate that the EOQ model with the DCF approach is more optimal than the classical EOQ model, with the EOQ model incorporating a cash discount being the most optimal. This conclusion is supported by two tests: the first through the implementation of existing theorems and the second through additional testing. Even over the most tolerant period of three months, the optimal condition remains unchanged, with the EOQ model using the DCF approach and cash discount remaining the most optimal model.
