Abstract
Pada suatu jaringan hotspot wireless yang menggunakan sistem autentikasi pengguna berbasis Universal Access Method dengan multi gateway, perpindahan koneksi suatu klien ke gateway lainnya akan memutuskan sesi komunikasi yang sedang berlangsung. Agar sesi komunikasi dapat dipertahankan maka diperlukan dukungan untuk mobilitas IP pada jaringan hotspot wireless tersebut. Beberapa penelitian telah dilakukan untuk mendukung mobilitas IP, namun aplikasinya membutuhkan program tambahan pada perangkat klien atau hanya terbatas pada sebuah intermediate router saja. Pada penelitian ini dikembangkan suatu dukungan mobilitas-mikro IP yang dapat diaplikasikan tanpa instalasi program tambahan di sisi klien dan mendukung arsitektur jaringan dengan banyak intermediate router, dengan menggunakan metode proxy ARP dan host-based routing statis yang diekspor ke protokol routing dinamis (misalnya OSPF). Dukungan mobilitas-mikro IP ini lalu diintegrasikan dengan sistem autentikasi pengguna hotspot wireless berbasis Universal Access Method pada jaringan yang terdiri atas multi gateway (jaringan akses lebih dari 1). Dengan demikian pengguna hotspot dapat melakukan mobilitas antar gateway dengan mempertahankan sesi komunikasi yang sedang berlangsung dan tidak perlu melakukan autentikasi ulang. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya waktu jeda yang terjadi rata-rata selama 11,39 detik saat klien berpindah antar gateway, terutama disebabkan karena proses re-asosiasi pada access point yang baru. Sedangkan waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan komunikasi antar gateway dan prosedur dukungan mobilitas hanya rata-rata selama 0,0122 detik. Dengan adanya waktu perpindahan gateway selama 11,39 detik tersebut, sesi komunikasi pada klien dengan IP address statis masih tetap dapat dipertahankan.

In wireless hotspot networks using user authentication system based on Universal Access Method with multi gateway, client movements to other gateways will disconnect ongoing communication sessions. In order to retain the sessions, a support for IP mobility is necessary to be provided for such hotspot wireless networks. Several researches for IP mobility support have been done, but their applications required installing additional programs on client devices or were only limited to a single intermediate router. This research developed a support for IP micro-mobility which can be applied to clients without the installation of additional programs, and supports network architectures with multiple intermediate routers, incorporating the proxy ARP method and static host-based routing which is exported into a dynamic routing protocol (such as OSPF). This IP micro-mobility support was then integrated with a wireless hotspot user authentication system based on the Universal Access Method on networks consisting of multiple gateways (more than one network access). With such support, hotspot users are able to move between gateways while retaining their ongoing communication sessions and without needing to re-authenticate. The results of this research showed that the average time for clients to switch to other gateways was 11.39 seconds, mainly due to the re-association process at the new access point. Meanwhile, the average time needed for gateway-to-gateway communications and mobility support procedures was only 0.0122 seconds. Despite the 11.39-second handover time, communication sessions on clients with static IP addresses were still able to be retained.
