Abstract

Online collaboration or groupware technology enables employees to perform various activities online from different locations. However, this technology depends on computers and internet connections. Without these facilities, the technology cannot be utilized optimally. This limitation affects employees who are traveling outside the city or those who cannot access both facilities. Employees can use laptops, mobile phones, and mobile internet technology to overcome this problem. However, not every employee has a laptop or smartphone, and the connection costs required to access web-based groupware can be relatively expensive. On the other hand, WAP offers a similar solution at a more affordable cost because WAP pages have a smaller data size. UML is used as a tool for modeling business processes, analyzing requirements, and designing features to be included in the WML version. The groupware is then implemented in WAP form so that employees can access it through mobile devices with higher speed and lower connection costs. The analysis and design process used to determine which features should be included in the WAP version is modeled using UML. The results show that WAP technology can be used to improve the accessibility of a web application, particularly the groupware used by Bee Microsystem. Several factors need to be considered when selecting features and designing a WAP interface, including limited data-entry facilities, limited display size, limitations on the amount of data that can be displayed, and compatibility among various devices.
