Abstract

In the research field of machine vision, the camera is one of the devices used as a sensor, specifically as a recording tool to produce 2D images. The image stores information about the camera parameters used. To obtain these parameters, calibration is required. In this calibration process, intrinsic camera parameters are obtained, representing the correspondence between camera coordinates and image coordinates, including focal length ($f$), Principal Point ($U_0, V_0$), and scale factors ($S_x, S_y$). Additionally, extrinsic parameters are obtained, representing the correspondence between camera coordinates and world coordinates, which include rotation parameters ($R_{Xc}$) and translation parameters ($T_x, T_y, T_z$). The object used to establish correspondence is a black-and-white checkerboard (Tsai grid) with an $8 \times 8$ pattern and 49 initial points, placed in a specially designed calibration room. Several methods are used in this calibration; first, the Direct-Linear Transform (DLT) is applied. DLT serves as a solution to the coordinate correspondence problem during calibration, where the resulting parameter data is used as a reference for the subsequent method, Genetic Algorithms (GAs). This method represents a novel approach used in the calibration process. As a result, this method converges toward the optimum point with an accuracy of 95.03% for each parameter. The obtained parameter data can be utilized in future research on 3D object reconstruction.
