Abstract
PT.

PT. PAL Indonesia, as a national shipbuilding company that has entered the international market, faces intense business competition and is continuously required to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations. This research aims to improve the production process through a Lean Thinking approach in the ship block erection process at the building berth/building dock, with the objective of reducing waste or non-value-added activities and consequently shortening the production lead time for shipbuilding. Identification of the production system was carried out using Big Picture Mapping. Problem identification was conducted using the Value Stream Mapping method, followed by a waste workshop to identify waste occurring in the production system. The analysis was supported by field survey data and questionnaires distributed to heads and supervisors of the relevant production departments concerning ship production lead time. Based on the data processing, dominant non-value-added activities or waste in the production system were identified and analyzed to determine their root causes. Improvement recommendations aimed at eliminating non-value-added activities or waste are expected to reduce lead time, fulfill customer requirements through on-time delivery, reduce production costs, and increase the company's profit margin.
