Abstract

Unstable and dynamic market conditions require companies to respond quickly to changes in market demand in order to remain competitive. This concept is known as agile manufacturing. Agility helps companies provide the right products at the right time and in the right quantity. Under unstable and unpredictable market conditions, a method is needed to determine the appropriate steps to respond quickly to market changes. To determine the appropriate actions, a company must identify the variables that affect agility, the characteristics and relationships among these variables, and the critical variables that have the greatest influence on agility. This research implements the Interpretive Structural Modeling method to determine the interdependencies among these variables within the company. The research was conducted at PT. Surya Rengo Containers, a packaging company that produces carton products, where the packaging industry is characterized by high product variety and low production volume. The research results identify the relationships among the variables and the critical variables that have the greatest influence on achieving agility within the company. The factors that most influence agility include the use of information technology, customer satisfaction, market sensitivity, cost minimization, and quality improvement.
