Abstract

Supply Chain Management is one of the strategic options available to companies seeking to compete in today's business environment. However, managing a supply chain is more complex than managing activities within a single company as a single channel. Evaluating supply chain efficiency becomes difficult when product and information flows are considered from the perspective of the entire supply chain. Most measurement methods or models currently available only measure supplier efficiency as a single channel and cannot fully accommodate the interests or information of the entire supply chain. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a technique that can be used to measure efficiency; however, conventional DEA (Charnes, Cooper, and Rhodes) cannot be directly applied to measure supply chain efficiency because the multiple inputs and multiple outputs across channels are interrelated, creating linkages between supplier inputs/outputs and manufacturer inputs/outputs. This research identifies, develops, and applies a DEA model to measure the efficiency of production units or product flows within a supply chain while accommodating the interests of interrelated channels operating cooperatively. Therefore, the model developed by Liang et al. (2006) is employed to measure supply chain efficiency in this study. Based on the available data, calculations are performed using LINDO software to determine the level of supply chain efficiency, which is relatively more difficult to achieve than single-channel efficiency. For example, DMU7 for paper has an efficiency score of 1 in the single-channel measurement, whereas its supply chain efficiency score is 0.990. Similarly, DMU2 for ink has an efficiency score of 1 in the single-channel measurement, whereas its supply chain efficiency score is 0.939. The number of efficient DMUs in the single-channel measurement is greater than the number of efficient DMUs in the supply chain measurement. This indicates that achieving supply chain efficiency is more difficult than achieving single-channel efficiency. Furthermore, DMUs identified as preferred peer groups in the single-channel measurement do not necessarily become efficient peers in the supply chain measurement. Therefore, targets for increasing output or reducing input to improve the efficiency of inefficient DMUs (Decision Making Units) cannot be determined independently by each supply chain channel. Instead, the target values or weights to be achieved must be established through agreement and coordination among the channels.
