Abstract

Dari perhitungan analisis ekonomi didapatkan _Internal Rate of Return_ (IRR) sebesar 20,07% per tahun, _Pay Out Time_ (POT) selama 4,98 tahun, dan _Break Even Point_ (BEP) sebesar 34,04%.

Global warming is becoming an increasingly pressing environmental issue because it has many negative impacts. One of the causes of global warming is the greenhouse effect. Therefore, the government is committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the use of green energy. Green energy is energy that is generally sourced from renewable resources such as solar energy, wind power, hydropower, and others. It is referred to as green energy because it does not produce CO₂ emissions, thereby reducing the greenhouse effect. One of the renewable energy sources that is being considered is biogas. Biogas is energy generated from the fermentation (decomposition) of organic materials, which is carried out by anaerobic bacteria (a type of bacteria that can live in conditions without O₂) and produces methane gas. The relatively simple production and maintenance processes, combined with the environmentally friendly energy produced, make biogas an alternative energy source. However, biogas still contains impurities such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), which must be removed first to improve its quality. The process of removing impurities from biogas produces a by-product, namely CaCO₃ in the form of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC). The raw material is obtained directly from PT Enero, namely biogas with a capacity of 1000 Nm³ per hour, with biomethane as the main product, which can be sold to the public as city gas. In addition, another product, PCC, which is produced from the reaction of CO₂ with Ca(OH)₂, can be sold to several nearby paper industries.
The biogas purification process consists of four stages: biogas pre-treatment, the slaking process, CO₂ removal, and product post-treatment. The slaking process is intended to react CaO with water to form Ca(OH)₂, which functions as an absorbent for the CO₂ contained in biogas. The second stage is biogas pre-treatment, which serves to adsorb the H₂S contained in the biogas before it enters the reactor. H₂S must be removed because it is corrosive, and if it remains in the final product, it can be toxic. In the reaction stage in the bubble column reactor, CO₂ in the biogas is removed by reacting the CO₂ gas with a Ca(OH)₂ slurry. The result of the purification process is biomethane with a very low CO₂ content and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), which subsequently undergoes post-treatment to obtain the desired specifications.
To establish a biogas purification plant producing precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) and biomethane, a total investment capital of Rp159,145,404,520.70 is required, with estimated annual sales revenue of Rp124,962,593,836. Based on the economic analysis, the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is 20.07% per year, the Pay Out Time (POT) is 4.98 years, and the Break Even Point (BEP) is 34.04%. Based on the technical, economic, and environmental aspects, this plant is feasible to be established.
