Abstract

Production planning is a process of determining the company's resources that will be used to produce goods in the future in predetermined quantities and quality at minimum cost. To carry out production planning for the procurement of components or materials, the Material Requirement Planning (MRP) approach is used, in which capacity is assumed to be unlimited. Since the MRP system does not limit demand quantities, the number of units produced in each time bucket tends to vary. Lot Bucket MRP (LMRP) is an alternative method to the conventional MRP system. This method divides demand into fixed lot sizes with time intervals distributed between two lots. The lot size is determined based on the average demand over a given time horizon. The LMRP method consists of two approaches: using an appendix table and using the approximate time formulation. Since the data obtained in this study consist of demand quantities, the LMRP method is applied using the approximate time formulation. The results show that the production lot sizes based on average annual demand using the LMRP method with the approximate time formulation are 27 units for type BOB, 46 units for type BCC, 53 units for type CBCC, 28 units for type HB, and 44 units for type New HB. The table used in the LMRP method differs considerably from that used in the MRP system. This difference is due to the fact that the LMRP method uses time as its unit of measurement rather than units, as used in the MRP system. The LMRP method demonstrates an approach that determines when a lot should be started and when the lot should be received.
