Abstract

An earthquake is a vibration of the Earth caused by the sudden release of energy stored in deformed rocks. A landslide is the process of mass movement of rocks (soil) caused by gravity. An early warning system is required to detect the occurrence of earthquakes or landslides. The early warning system technology related to earthquakes and landslides in Indonesia, particularly that provided by the BMKG, has not yet been adequately disseminated to the general public living in earthquake- and landslide-prone areas. The early warning system is primarily centralized at BMKG, and many people still do not understand how to use the applications provided by BMKG. Due to these issues, this final project focuses on the design and development of a building vibration and ground displacement detection system based on the Internet of Things. The purpose of this device is to enable the public to directly identify potential threats from landslides and earthquakes. The device is equipped with an LCD that displays the Richter scale for ground and wall vibrations, as well as a buzzer that activates when the vibration exceeds the setpoint. The device uses an accelerometer sensor to detect vibrations with an accuracy of ±94.16% and a gyroscope angle sensor to detect ground displacement with accuracies of ±96.9% on the x-axis in the clockwise direction, ±99.48% on the x-axis in the counterclockwise direction, ±97.59% on the y-axis in the clockwise direction, and ±97.11% on the y-axis in the counterclockwise direction. The device is also equipped with an Internet of Things feature for monitoring by relevant authorities, such as the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
