Abstract

Dengan rincian analisis ekonomi sebagai berikut: nilai Net Present Value (NPV) sebesar +Rp158.430.462.950; Internal Rate of Return (IRR) sebesar 31,50%; Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) sebesar 11,04%; bunga bank sebesar 8%; Pay Out Time (POT) selama 3,3 tahun; dan Break Even Point (BEP) sebesar 34,35%.

Ethanol is used in various industries according to its alcohol content. In 2020, the emergence of the COVID-19 outbreak increased the need for antiseptics. The soaring demand for antiseptics was followed by an increasing market for ethanol as a raw material for sanitizing products. The current demand for ethanol in the market is estimated to have increased by up to 20% compared to the usual period. Bioethanol is ethanol made from biomass containing sugar, starch, or cellulose components. One of the sources that can be used to produce bioethanol is biomass from cocoa pod/shell waste. Cocoa shell waste from the cocoa production process accounts for 75%. Cocoa husks contain 35% cellulose and 16% hemicellulose, which can be processed into bioethanol. Ethanol or ethyl alcohol is an organic compound with the molecular formula CH₃CH₂OH and contains a hydroxyl group, allowing it to undergo oxidation or esterification. This rationale is the basis for choosing the title “Pre-Design of a Bioethanol Plant from Cocoa Pods/Shells”. This plant is planned to be established in North Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, with an estimated start of production in 2024. The selection of the plant location is primarily based on the availability of raw materials, water sources, and electricity. This bioethanol plant has a raw material capacity of 10,344.08 kg/hour of cocoa pods/husks and operates 24 hours per day for 330 working days per year to produce 15,000 tons of ethanol annually. There are four main stages in the production of bioethanol from cocoa pods/shells, namely pre-treatment, hydrolysis, fermentation, and distillation. Production begins with cutting the cocoa pods/shells using a chipper, followed by delignification in a digester at a temperature of 200°C. Enzymatic hydrolysis is then carried out using cellulase enzymes for 24 hours. After that, the hydrolysis products are separated using Centrifuge I. The centrifuge filtrate, which contains glucose, is transferred to a starter tank for culturing _Saccharomyces cerevisiae_ under anaerobic conditions for 24 hours, followed by fermentation in a fermenter for 36 hours in batch mode. The beer produced from fermentation is filtered and purified by Distillation I to 77% and Distillation II to 95%. The employees are divided into four process areas, with three shifts per day. The total number of employees is 110, including the board of commissioners and directors. The financing for the bioethanol plant consists of 40% personal funds and 60% loans from BNI Bank. The economic analysis is as follows: Net Present Value (NPV) of +Rp158,430,462,950; Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 31.50%; Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) of 11.04%; bank interest rate of 8%; Pay Out Time (POT) of 3.3 years; and Break Even Point (BEP) of 34.35%. Based on the sensitivity analysis of the Internal Rate of Return (IRR), the selling price of the product has a significant effect on the IRR value.
