Abstract

EV Battery Charging Station has non-linear electronic equipment, namely a battery charger, that can reduce the power factor (PF) because it causes an increase in voltage and harmonic current. A depleted EV battery can be exchanged for a fully charged battery at an EV Battery Swap Station. The Battery Swap Station has ten battery slots that can be used simultaneously to charge 72 V 20 Ah batteries. The power factor at the EV Battery Swap Station decreased to 0.66, which is below the PLN standard of 0.85. The decrease in power factor is caused by the use of a battery charger with a non-sinusoidal waveform, which can increase harmonics in the current waveform. The increase in harmonics also causes distortion of the voltage waveform. The limits for Individual Harmonic Distortion (IHD) and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) are set by the IEEE 519-2014 standard. Tests on the EV Battery Swap Station with five battery chargers resulted in IHDi and THDi values that did not comply with the IEEE 519-2014 standard, namely IHDi at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 11th orders. Therefore, corrective measures are needed to increase the power factor to comply with PLN standards by using a capacitor bank and a single-tuned passive filter. In this final project, the implementation of a single-tuned passive filter and capacitor bank will be designed as an effort to improve and maintain the PF close to one (unity) to maximize electricity utilization and improve PQ at the EV Battery Charging Station. The EV Battery Charging Station used in this study is a charging system for a single battery charger that is directly connected to an EV battery with a capacity of 72 V 20 Ah. The test was conducted using a single EV battery charger with electric vehicle battery capacities of 72 V 20 Ah and 12 V 20 Ah, both with and without the use of a capacitor bank and a single-tuned passive filter. The results showed that the power factor decreased from 0.96 to 0.03 in the test with a 12 V 20 Ah battery, while in the test with a 72 V 20 Ah battery, the power factor decreased from 0.85 to 0.03 due to an increase in the system's reactive power.
