Abstract

As a consequence of rapid development of technology, difference way of waste water disposal are created. One of the facilities that used for waste water disposal is ocean outfall. Ocean outfall is submerged pipe engineering that used for waste water disposal from shore to offshore so that the bio-chemical process in offshore may occur. One of the important factor that determine the effectivity of an outfall is initial dilution, that is comparation between pollutant concentration in the lower ends of port with the one in certain distance inside port. The object of this research is to find out the impact of wave and the depth of port placement concerning the increase of initial dilution value. The proposed method in this experiment is themperature distribution by canalize heated effluent into ambient through some hydraulic structure. The procentage of an escalation dilution that occur on the heave condition of the sea compare with in the placid one attain the biggest value in the port's depth, h = 20 cm (h/d = 0,22), is 377,5 %. The smallest procentage occur in the port's depth, h = 70 cm (h/d = 0,78), is 127,9 %. The shape of surface plume for h = 20 cm (h/d = 0,22), h = 50 cm (h/d = 0,56), h = 70 cm (h/d = 0,78), had different shape and size. All of them had the same equation, which is a parabola curve. But among of them, surface plume for 20 cm port depth, has the most shortest movement, and for h = 70 cm (h/d = 0,78) has the longest one. The conclusion from this experiment are the condition of wave and the depth of port placement has an effect to the placement of ocean outfall.
