Abstract

Ocean outfall is one of the hydraulic structures connecting dry land headwork to the disposal terminal location or to the production of sea oil processing with a discharge spot on the sewage disposal system. Outfall technology is associated with an under sea piping manufacturing which used to discharge sewage from land to the sea hence to enable a natural biochemical process occurence. Commonly, this technology is used to discharge non conservative sewage, which is a dispersable sewage and adjustable in waterworks. Surface dilution is an important factor in outfall system design, dilution is one of the dilution measurement occurs in the near field region or a measure on rasio of a sewage concentration before it discharge and the concentration measured in a certain distance in ambient water. This research discusses the effect of port angle orientation to initial dilution buaoyant jet in regular waves. The experiment was conducted by heating flourescein solution as a pollutant, then measuring the temperature differences in a certain distance. Next, the dilution measured and the dilution in no wave case were compared. From the experiment results, it shown that a changing of horizontal port angle position to the wave propagation's direction yields a significant effect, where it found the biggest raising magnitude occur on θ = 0°, with an increment percentage of 96%-369%, θ = 45° is 45%-276% and for θ = 90° the increment percentage is 7%-135%. This indicates that a modification in angle of horizontal port orientation to wave propagation's direction affects dilutions value in regular waves environment.
