Abstract

Technology of discharging wastes to the sea was continuously developed through many researches about waste concentration, dilution level, or the geometry of the outfall. A waste disposal system considered works by the greater the dilution level occurred. Initial dilution presented the dilution level occurred on one point of a plume flow. Influential factors in increasing initial dilution are effluent velocity (waste disposal), port angle, and the depth of the discharge. Environmental factors such as the wave and current also play significant role. In this final project, the research is stressed to the velocity and the wave influence in increasing dilution occurred. The length scale range and the ratio used is Java Sea's length scale range and ratio. In that case it's expected that this research can be applied for the whole Java Sea's condition. From the current investigation found that the velocity and the wave influence significantly in increasing dilution. Effluent velocity 5 cm/s (LM/Lo=2,1) will yield dilution range between 6.8% - 53.7%. Meanwhile the effluent velocity 14 cm/s (LM/Lo=7,2) will yield dilution range from 45.5% - 146%. For a maximum effluent velocity, 20 cm/s (LM/Lo=11,6), hence the dilution increases range from 56.8% - 168%. Waving environmental also increases dilution for about 2.5 times compared with a non-wave environmental dilution.
