Abstract

Ocean outfall is a facility consisting of piping structures used for discharging wastewater into the seawater body. The performance of the outfall is measured by the level of the dilution of the wastewater. Initial dilution is usually used to represent the dilution level and is measured by ratio of waste concentration at the port to that at a given level of centerline plume. This final project investigates the effects of port orientation and effluent velocity to the initial dilution at moving waters. The effects are identified by the value of coefficient of formula associated with the dilution. The study shows that increasing the port angles and the effluent velocity enhances the effluent dilution. The biggest coefficient value is given by the port angle of 180° (cross flow case) both for the BDNF (Buoyancy-dominated Near Field) and BDFF (Buoyancy-dominated Far Field) that are C1 = 0.46 and C2 = 0.84 for LM/LQ = 4.64; C1 = 0.47 and C2 = 1.10 for LM/LQ = 6.96 and C1 = 0.59 and C2 = 1.11 for LM/LQ = 9.29.
