Abstract

The Sidoarjo mud volcano, which has been active since May 29, 2006, has become a major concern. The mud volcano initially discharged only 5,000 m³/day, but the volume has now increased to 150,000 m³/day. Considering the volume of mud discharged, this phenomenon is expected to cause mass depletion due to the continuous release of mud, raising concerns about the potential for land subsidence in Porong District and its surroundings. Therefore, periodic monitoring is essential to determine the direction and magnitude of land subsidence.
Land subsidence monitoring can be carried out using several methods, one of which is the Global Positioning System (GPS). Data obtained from GPS surveys are used to analyze ground movement. In addition to analyzing the direction of ground movement, this study also predicts changes in the elevation of survey points during each observation period.
The GPS survey results indicate that the average vertical displacement ranges from -0.1275 m to 0.2574 m. Meanwhile, the average vertical displacement rate ranges from -5 × 10⁻⁶ cm/second to 8 × 10⁻⁶ cm/second.
