Abstract

Apel merupakan produk khas yang menjadi andalan Kota Batu, dengan nilai produksi mencapai 23.152 ton dari 24.205 pohon, apel Batu tersebut didistribusikan ke Surabaya, Bali, dan Jakarta. Kota Batu memiliki potensi besar dalam sektor industri agrobisnis di Jawa Timur, khususnya untuk budidaya buah apel. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari data BPS yang menunjukkan peningkatan produksi apel nasional 7.303.372 ton (1984) menjadi 9.046.276 ton (1988) atau meningkat 17,5%. Selain didukung oleh iklim yang baik untuk pembudidayaan buah apel ini, Batu juga telah memiliki sarana infrastruktur yang memadai seperti jalan dan jaringan telekomunikasi. Akan tetapi, industri agrobisnis komoditi apel di Kota Batu ini tidak didukung dengan sistem distribusi yang baik, yang dapat menjaga kualitas buah apel. Sehingga masih banyak kerusakan yang dialami oleh buah apel selama proses distribusi berlangsung. Dalam perancangan sarana angkut apel ini dilakukan benchmarking pada komponen-komponen pendukung sistem distribusi komoditi apel, yang dapat mempengaruhi kualitas buah apel. Komponen tersebut meliputi penggunaan bantalan (cushion) dengan jenis material yang sesuai untuk industri agrobisnis di Kota Batu, pengaplikasian material kemasan transport yang dapat menjaga kondisi fisik buah apel serta dapat mendukung aktivitas bongkar-muat secara manual. Pemilihan material bantalan (cushion) dan kemasan transport didasari oleh kriteria pada matrik penilaian yang berkaitan dengan efektivitas dan efisiensi kinerja sarana angkut pada sistem distribusi komoditi apel. Desain Sarana Angkut Apel Untuk Kawasan Agropolitan ini merupakan pengembangan dari sarana angkut komoditi apel pada sistem distribusi komoditi buah apel di Kota Batu. Khususnya pada optimalisasi fungsi kemasan, serta penambahan fungsi baru pada bantalan kemasan menjadi sebuah kemasan buah apel yang siap jual, yang tidak ditemukan pada produk sebelumnya. Selain bertujuan untuk menjaga kualitas buah apel dan mengurangi jumlah kerusakan buah apel selama proses distribusi berlangsung, diharapkan produk ini dapat pula memberikan nilai tambah pada komoditi apel melalui perwujudan kemasan yang siap jual pada buah apel.

Apple fruit is a special product which has become a mainstay of the city of Batu, with total production of 23,152 tons of apple fruit from 24,205 apple trees; those Batu apples are distributed to Surabaya, Bali, and Jakarta. The city of Batu itself has huge potential in the agribusiness industry in East Java, especially for apple fruit cultivation. This can be seen from BPS data, which shows an increase in national apple production from 7,303,372 tons in 1984 to 9,046,276 tons in 1988, or an increase of 17.5%. Besides its climate that supports this apple fruit cultivation, Batu itself has appropriate infrastructure such as roadways and telecommunication networks that support the development of this industry. But, the agribusiness industry, especially for apple commodities in Batu, has not been supported with an appropriate distribution system, which can preserve the quality of the apple fruit itself. This can cause many of the apple fruits to be damaged during the distribution process. In this transportation tools design for apple fruit, first we do benchmarking on the components of the distribution system that influence apple quality. Those components include the usage of appropriate cushions for the agribusiness industry in the city of Batu, the application of materials for transportation packages which can preserve the quality of the apples and also can ensure safety during manual loading-unloading activities. The selection of the cushion material and transportation package is based on the aspects of the effectiveness and efficiency of the transportation tools in the distribution system of the apple commodity. This transportation tools design for apple fruit constitutes a development from the previous transportation tools that are used in the distribution system for apple commodities in Batu. Especially for the optimization of the transportation package, as well as the addition of a new function of the cushion to become a selling package which is not found in the previous product. In addition to preserving the quality of the apple fruit and decreasing the amount of damaged apples during the distribution process, this product can also give more value to the apple commodity through a selling package for apple fruit which is ready to display and sell.
