Abstract

Bangunan bersejarah di Surabaya sebagian besar adalah warisan zaman kolonial Belanda dan merupakan saksi historis sejarah perkembangan kota. Dengan perantaraan peninggalan itu, memori kolektif sebagai pengalaman bangsa, baik menggembirakan maupun menyedihkan di masa silam, dapat dihadirkan kembali. Hal itu sangat penting bagi generasi muda dan pendidikan. Namun kenyataannya, banyak keberadaan bangunan-bangunan bersejarah di Surabaya yang memburuk kondisinya, bahkan banyak aset yang hilang. Setelah ditelusuri, ternyata banyak generasi muda Surabaya yang tidak mengetahui sejarah perkembangan kota ini, termasuk keberadaan bangunan-bangunan bersejarah yang menjadi saksi sejarah tersebut. Balai Pemuda yang dahulu bernama Simpangsche Societeit merupakan salah satu dari sekian banyak bangunan bersejarah di Surabaya. Gedung tua ini memiliki banyak keunikan dan cerita panjang yang turut mengisi perjalanan Kota Surabaya. Dengan demikian, perlu sebuah langkah untuk mengomunikasikan kepada masyarakat, khususnya generasi muda, akan nilai sejarah yang ada di bangunan bersejarah di Surabaya. Televisi adalah salah satu media dan cara yang menarik untuk menyampaikan hal ini kepada mereka. Dengan dimulai dari Gedung Balai Pemuda sebagai objek pertama, TV program ini diharapkan akan menimbulkan apresiasi dari generasi muda terhadap Balai Pemuda, di mana secara tidak langsung masyarakat ikut berperan serta dalam usaha pelestarian.

Most of the historical buildings in Surabaya were inherited from the Dutch colonial age, and they are historical witnesses of the city's development. With the mediation of the legacy, the collective memory of the nation's experiences, both pleasing and sad, in the past could be brought back. That was very important for the younger generation and education. However, the fact is that many historic buildings in Surabaya have deteriorated in condition, and even many assets have been lost. After being investigated, it was found that many younger generations in Surabaya did not know the history of the development of this city, including the existence of historic buildings that became witnesses to this history. Balai Pemuda (Youth Hall), which was named Simpangsche Societeit, was one of the many historic buildings in Surabaya. This old building had many unique features and a long story that took part in filling the history of Surabaya. Therefore, a step was needed to communicate to the community, especially the younger generation, the historical value of historic buildings in Surabaya. Television was one of the media and methods that was interesting for informing them about this. Starting from the Balai Pemuda Building as the first object, this TV program was expected to generate appreciation from the younger generation for Balai Pemuda, where, indirectly, the community participated in an effort to conserve it.
