Abstract

The Suramadu Bridge Causeway Construction Project on the Madura Side, Phase II, is located offshore and faces several challenges in girder erection. Tidal fluctuations and strong winds make girder erection one of the most difficult construction activities to carry out. In addition, time and budget constraints pose further challenges in selecting an appropriate construction method. This study aims to determine the criteria attributes and their priority weights for selecting a girder erection method, establish the priority weights of the alternative methods, and analyze the effects of changes in the attributes on the priority weights of the alternatives for the Suramadu Bridge Causeway Construction Project on the Madura Side, Phase II. The alternatives considered are the floating crane method, the turtle method, which combines crawler cranes with winch rollers, and the girder launcher method. The research stages include identifying criteria attributes and alternatives through interviews using a compromise approach, determining the priority weights of the attributes and alternatives using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and conducting dynamic sensitivity analysis using Expert Choice 2000 software. Based on the separate assessments of four respondents, two respondents the project manager representing the contractor and the engineering assistant representing the project owner identified quality and time as the main priority attributes. Meanwhile, the site office engineer representing the contractor ranked time as the highest-priority attribute, whereas the engineering staff member representing the consultant ranked quality as the highest-priority attribute. Regarding the priority weights of the alternative methods, all four respondents independently identified the girder launcher method as the highest-priority alternative for girder erection. The group analysis yielded the following attribute weights: quality, 0.2878; time, 0.2776; cost, 0.1263; operating method, 0.1124; and risk, 0.1960. The priority weights for the alternative girder erection methods were 0.3152 for the floating crane method, 0.1062 for the turtle method, and 0.5787 for the girder launcher method. The results of the group dynamic sensitivity analysis indicate that the girder launcher method remains the highest-priority alternative despite changes in the quality, cost, operating method, and risk attributes, but its priority is sensitive to changes in the time attribute.
