Abstract

Anhydride is often used as curing agent and also coupling agent in the polymer mixing and polymer matrix composite materials. Epoxy resin is used in common for the polymer matrix. However, the interface bonding between epoxy and its filler is fairly weak, such as with graphite. This research is conducted to identify the effect of addition of Maleic Anhydride (MAH) on mechanical properties, thermal stability, and electrical conductivity of the Epoxy/TEA/MAH/Graphite Composite. Variations addition of MAH in 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 % weight. The specimens were tested using FTIR, SEM, Hardness Test, TGA, and Electrical Conductivity Test. The addition of MAH can improve hardness, thermal stability, and electrical conductivity. The maximum hardness were obtained in composition of 12% MAH, it is 80,9 Shore D. Composition of 12% MAH achieved the highest degradation temperature of 5% weight, it is 350,4 oC and 35,9% the rest of weight. The highest electrical conductivity is in composition of 9% MAH, it has 0,0257 S/m. From those results, Epoxy/TEA/MAH/Graphite Composite can be used as a candidate of conductive coating composite for the aircraft’s body.
