Abstract

=================================================================

According to the official the U.S. government source for fuel economy information, only around 14 -30% energy that is used to drive vehicles and the rest of them are wasted. The rest of 30-37% energy is missing because of the heat loss by gas emissions and convection, 25-33% energy missing in the form of heat dissipation in the cooling process, and 33-40% energy missing in the form of mechanical losses. The low efficiency of the energy consumption from the results of burning in a vehicle encourages a research that focuses on harvesting energy. To reuse the lost vibration energy on a suspension system, experiments are done in developing shock absorber to be regenerative shock absorber (RSA), one of them is the RSA of hydro-magneto-electric regenerative shock absorber (HMERSA) in the rear suspension of a vehicle.
In this research, a model and analysis are carried out on the influence of a change in parameter on the use of hydro-magneto-electric regenerative shock absorber (HMERSA) dual input-single output that applied and simulated on a front and rear suspension system of a vehicle, where rear suspension system hold a load greater than the front suspension so that the damping force needed is higher. The varying parameters are the motor hydraulic and the generator position, and the length of pipes used. Vehicle simulation modeled on the horizontally half-car system. Input that used in this research is sinusoidal input and bump modified. The influence of delay of one of HMERSA will be analyzed by varying phase difference of sinusoidal input that given. Variation of phase difference that are used are the 0° phase difference and 90° phase difference.
From this research it is obtained that the highest damping force and the highest energy generated are when the two cylindrical hydraulic vibrate with 0° phase difference. When the two of cylindrical hydraulic vibrate at the 90° phase difference, the generated power is smaller but stable and continuous. On the horizontally half-car model with the same sinusoidal excitation on the rear and front tire, the generated power increases in the increment of the vehicle speed. The highest power generated is 165 Watt happened at vehicle speed 80 km/h. The highest passenger rms acceleration is 2,7004 m/s2 at the vehicle speed 20 km/h with sinusoidal excitation in 90° phase difference, the rest at the vehicle speed above 20 km/h, passenger rms acceleration is decreased. For the vehicle on turning junction simulations, it is obtained the maximum power generated is 19 Watt with vehicle speed 5 m/s and turn radius 7 m.
