Abstract

============================================================
Phytodrainage is natural drainage technology that uses plants to increase soil infiltration capacity in the form of greenspace. This concept is in line with the ecodrainage. This study aimed to determine the ability and requirement of greenspace for rainwater runoff reduction in the Pucang ang Kemambang Sub-Watersheds Sidoarjo Regency. Methods research consisted of descriptive analysis method qualitative and quantitative.
The results revealed with existing greenspace area of 60.24% could reduce rainwater runoff by 42.98% in Pucang Sub-Watershed and 36.59% of greenspace could rainwater runoff by 34.92% in Kemambang Sub-Watershed. Greenspace function as phytodrainage for Pucang and Kemambang Sub-Watersheds effectively reduce rainwater runoff upstream section, which characterized by a sandy loam soil, but was less effective in the downstream, which composed of muddy clay soil. Green open space would be effective as phytodrainage if available of 35% in the Pucang Sub-Watershed and 78% in the Kemambang Sub-Watershed.
The greenspace as phytodrainage was feasible economically and would be optimally if the inter-agency / institution which related to water resources in Sidoarjo Local Government has management which integrated under the coordination of the Planning Agency. These institutions should be competent oversight consistent and always innovate in the approach to the public.
