Abstract

OGAWA SEIKI cavitation phenomenon experimental
equipment is one of piping system testing equipment with
cavitation modeling can be found in the Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics and Turbo-machinery, Department of Mechanical Engineering FTI - ITS, Surabaya. The performance of pump and piping instrument is estimated to have decreased. The decline in performance is due to the age of the equipment is very old and lack of maintenance done on the system, and the many parts that have been lost. Therefore, testing the performance of the pump
and piping system head loss used in this research needs to be done. Piping system of OGAWA SEIKI cavitation phenomenon experimental equipment has been modified to most piping systems using material Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) in diameter 2 in. Fitting piping consists of 90o
elbow and reducer. Some pressure tap connected with the mercury manometer with specific gravity (SG) 13.6. Head loss in pipes were analyzed using Swamee-Jain
formulations and equations Darcy-Weisbach. Testing involves measuring the pump suction pressure and discharge pressure of the pump using a pressure gauge at the inlet and outlet. The pump can operate at a maximum capacity of 3.9 L / s. Variations Reynolds number in turbulent flow performed on debit 0 L / sec up to a maximum discharge that can be achieved for PVC pipe diameter 2 in the line with a variation of 0.2 L / s. Visualization cavitation was observed along with changing the flow rate of the system. From the experiment, the data obtained in the form of
graphs comparing the Reynolds number (Re), losses coefficient (KL), visualization cavitation and pump working charts using several models bully.
