Abstract

In underwater Drilling, Drill Pipes are used as a connecting medium between Top Drive and Drill Bit. 10 m length Drill Pipes are arranged via threaded connection. During the process of drilling, drill pipes will be given a certain amount of torque so that the drill bit will follow the rotation and rub the formation. At the time of torque given, there is a possibility of damage at the connections between the drill pipe. By simulating the process using Finite Element methods, and varying the parameters of drill pipe, it is obtained that the smallest displacement responses of node 1 is in the 5.875" diameter variation with value 0,0711 rad in Spudding In condition and 0,00355 rad in Drilling condition.
