Abstract
Kitosan larut air (water soluble chitosan, WSC) telah berhasil disintesis dari limbah cangkang udang dan dimanfaatkan sebagai inhibitor korosi. Kitin cangkang udang diperoleh dari reaksi demineralisasi dan deproteinisasi cangkang udang sedangkan WSC diperoleh dari reaksi deasetilasi kitin dan pemotongan rantai kitosan kasar dengan H2O2. WSC dikarakterisasi menggunakan FT-IR dan ditentukan derajat deasetilasinya dengan titrasi asam basa. Kinerja WSC dalam menghambat korosi baja lunak pada media petroleum buatan dan HCl 1M telah dipelajari dengan metode polarisasi potensiodinamik. Studi efisiensi inhibisi WSC dilakukan pada variasi konsentrasi 25-175 ppm dalam media korosif pada kondisi stagnan dan dengan pengadukan. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan efisiensi inhibisi WSC meningkat terhadap konsentrasi dan mencapai maksimum pada konsentrasi 100 ppm. Efisiensi maksimum WSC pada media petroleum buatan stagnan dan dengan pengadukan diperoleh sebesar 84,94% dan 92,16%, secara berturut-turut. Sedangkan, dalam media HCl 1M diperoleh sebesar 73,19% untuk stagnan dan 64,99% dengan pengadukan. Intepretasi hasil pengukuran dengan polarisasi potensiodinamik menunjukkan bahwa WSC merupakan inhibitor tipe campuran. Adsorpsi WSC pada permukaan baja lunak dalam media petroleum buatan mengikuti isotermal adsorpsi Langmuir dan Frumkin sedangkan dalam HCl 1M mengikuti model isotermal adsorpsi Freundlich.

Water soluble chitosan (WSC) from shrimp shells waste was succesfully synthesised and used as corrosion. Chitin extracted from shrimp shell waste using demineralized and deproteinization reaction. WSC obtained from deacetylation and shortening polymer chain of crude chitosan using H2O2. WSC obtained was characterised using FT-IR and its deacetylation degree determined using acid-base titration. Performance of WSC as corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in artificial petroleum and 1M HCl was studied using potentiodynamic polarization method. Inhibiton efficiency studied using various concentration of inhibitor from 25 ppm to 75 ppm with stirring and stagnant condition. The inhibiton efficiency increased with the increase in concentration and reached a maximum at 100 ppm as the inhibiton efficiencies are 84,94% in stagnant, 92,16% in stirring condition of artificial petroleum and 73,19% in stagnant, 64,99% in stirring condition of 1M HCl. Polarization studies revealed that WSC acts as mixed type inhibitor. Adsorption of water soluble chitosan on mild steel surface obey Langmuir and Frumkin isotherm in artificial petroleum media and obey Freundlich in 1M HCl.
