Abstract

Public protest is one of the builder of a democratic system, the unheard people
will swarm the streets to state their aspiration. This phenomenon has been going on
since the old tradition of Indonesia, only the term and process may vary. DPR RI as
the legislative body of the government has often been the target of public critique,
especially regarding policies which deemed un-populist. It's not rare that a public
protest erupt to riot or a forced disbandment which the media will always catch up to,
this result in a negative stigma towards the process of public aspiration.
Theater of Democracy becomes an alternative space in responding the process
of public protest, specifically in the Parliament Complex of DPR/MPR RI. Triggered
by an uncontinued plan to facilitate Protester, spatial response are explored in
accommodating protester to benefit the process of democracy. The new space will not
only give a place to protest but also in facilitating the formation of a better public
aspiration.
