Abstract

The growth of sea freight and cargo container in Indonesia is increasing from every year. Competition between shipping companies increasingly stringent by increasing services and fleets. Without the competitiveness index of service users had trouble determining a suitable shipping company to send the charge. This final project aims to determine the criteria of competitiveness of the shipping company in Indonesia, model designation shipping company competitiveness index, and the index of competitiveness of shipping companies in Indonesia. Criteria competitiveness of shipping companies gained from previous studies of global competitiveness index, the competitiveness of shipping, and the competitiveness of the port. Criteria obtained is the number of vessels, number of routes, the number of distance traveled, number of frequencies in one year, the amount of capacity in a single year, and the amount of charge within one year. Model designation competitiveness index in Indonesian shipping company derived from the method of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to normalize the data obtained. Competitiveness index for 20 shipping companies as the samples obtained from the model that has been generated by entering the data that has been normalized for each criterion on the shipping company to get the value of the competitiveness index. The competitiveness index of shipping companies with the highest ratings are PT. SPIL and followed by 19 shipping companies that were sampled on this Final Project.
