Abstract
spektrometri UV-Visible , Scanning Electron Microscope ( SEM ) , Fourier -
transform IR ( FTIR ) dan BET ( Brunauer - Emmett- Teller ) . Hasil analisa XRD
menunjukkan pembentukan nanopartikel dengan struktur ZnO heksagonal.
Aktivitas fotokatalitik ZnO dievaluasi dengan mengukur degradasi larutan
Methylene Biru ( MB ) dibawah sinar matahari . Absorbansi metilen biru yang
dianalisis dengan menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis pada panjang
gelombang 664 nm . Hasil analisis menunjukkan penambahan silika dibawah
0.1 M tidak mempengaruhi aktivitas fotokatalitik ZnO.

ZnO has shown a great promise as a photocatalyst being employed in
degradation of organic pollutant compounds compared to Titanium oxide (TiO2).
Silica (SiO2) is a promising in organic material for use as material composite for
ZnO nanoparticle since it is chemically stable except in a strong acid or base. In
addition, silica has a low refractive index, which can contribute to effective
excitation by ultraviolet light. A sonication method was employed to synthesize
flower-like ZnO by using zinc nitrate as a starting material.
The ZnO nanoparticle were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-Visible
spectrometry, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier-transform IR (FTIR)
and BET (Brunauer-Emmett- Teller). The X-ray diffraction analysis of the sample
showed the formation of nanopowder with wurtzite ZnO structure. The
photocatalytic activities of ZnO were evaluated by measuring the degradation of
Methylene Blue (MB) in water under the solar radiation. The absorbance of
methylene blue were analyzed using Uv-vis Spectrophotometer at a wavelength of
664 nm. These result indicate that the addition of silica under 0.1 M did not affect
the photocatalytic activity ZnO.
