Abstract
Larutan eutektik air dan garam umumnya digunakan sebagai
Phase Change Material untuk cold storage. Namun dalam
penerapannya, larutan ini memiliki masalah pada
ketidaksempurnaan proses pembekuan yang terjadi karena adanya
supercooling. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan pembekuan larutan
air dan garam dengan variasi komposisi dan penambahan agen
nukleasi. Jenis garam klorida yang digunakan adalah NaCl, MgCl2,
dan NH4Cl. Variasi komposisi garam klorida yang digunakan
adalah 0 wt%, 2 wt%, 4 wt%, 6 wt% dan 8 wt%. Agen nukleasi
yang digunakan adalah boraks dengan variasi penambahan 1 wt%,
2wt% dan 3 wt%. Proses pengujian yang dilakukan adalah
chamber test. Dari hasil penelitian terlihat bahwa komposisi garam
klorida memberikan pola pengaruh yang berbeda terhadap derajat
supercooling dan berkisar pada 0 – 5 oC. Selain itu penambahan 1
wt% agen nukleasi pada NaCl/H2O tercatat memberikan
penurunan derajat supercooling sebesar 0,87oC. Namun
penambahan agen nukleasi pada MgCl2/H2O dan NH4Cl/H2O
tercatat justru memberikan kenaikan derajat supercooling sebesar
1 – 2 oC.

Eutectic solution of water and salt is generally used as a
Phase Change Material for cold storage. But in practice, this
solution often has problems with imperfections process of freezing
that occurs because of the phenomenon of supercooling. In this
research, the process of freezing a solution of water and salt with a
variation of the composition and the addition of a nucleating agent
were done. The type of chloride salts used are NaCl, MgCl2, and
NH4Cl. Variations composition of chloride salts are 0 wt%, 2 wt%,
4 wt%, 6 wt% and 8 wt%. Nucleating agent used is borax with 1
wt%, 2 wt% and 3 wt% in addition. The testing process is chamber
test. From the research it appears that the composition of chloride
salts provide different patterns to the degree of supercooling in the
range 0-5 ° C. Besides that, the addition of 1 wt% nucleating agent
in NaCl/H2O gives a reduction in the degree of supercooling in the
amount of 0,87oC. But addition to MgCl2/H2O and NH4Cl/H2O
gives a rising in the degree of supercooling at 1-2°C.
