Abstract

Anak autistik merupakan anak berkebutuhan khusus yang membutuhkan
perlakuan khusus untuk menempuh pendidikan. Anak autistik memerlukan terapi
khusus yaitu terapi okupasi dimana dibutuhkan alat bantu berupa media-media
visual seperti, buku visual, alat peraga, dan permainan edukatif. Media visual
yang dibutuhkan utamanya untuk anak autistik tahap intermediate, umumnya
merupakan media untuk anak normal sehingga pengembangan media visual untuk
kebutuhan terapi okupasi anak autistik sangat diperlukan.
Media pembelajaran visual interaktif dapat menjadi pilihan untuk membantu
proses pembelajaran anak autistik karena selain mempelajari materi, anak tersebut
juga diajak untuk berpartisipasi dan berinteraksi sehingga dapat melatih gerak
motoriknya. Metode yang sesuai untuk digunakan untuk media pembelajaran
visual anak penderita autistik tahap intermediate adalah metode PECS (Picture
Exchange for Communication System) yaitu sebuah sistem untuk berkomunikasi
dengan menggunakan bantuan gambar atau visual sebagai media alternatif untuk pertukaran komunikasi. Aplikasi dari media pembelajaran ini akan disesuaikan
dengan kebutuhan anak autistik.

Autistic children are the types of children who have special needs with special
treatments in order to obtain education. Autistic children need a very specific
therapy which is called occupational therapy in which some visual media as aids
are needed, such as visual books, props, and educative toys. The necessary visual
medias are primarily meant for intermediate stages autistic children, generally
those medias are for regular children, therefore the visual media development for
occupational therapy necessity towards autistic children is very much needed.
Interactive visual educational media can also be chosen to help the education for
Autistic children due to the fact that other than studying the theory, they would
also be likely asked to participate and interact that will greatly help their motor
activities. The suitable method that is used for educational visual media on
Autistic children in the intermediate stage is so called the Picture Exchange for
Communication System method or PECS for short. It is a system in which visual
medias such as pictures, images, and drawings are used to communicate. The application of this educational media will be adjusted to Autistic children’s needs.
