Abstract
Maraknya penggunaan teknologi komunikasi terutama telepon seluler membuat manusia memiliki rasa ketergantungan yang tinggi. Sedang berada di dalam proses di mana menuju kepada sifat kedewasaan, pola pikir remaja yang cenderung terbuka lebih mudah menerima hal-hal baru yang bersifat inovatif sehingga membuatnya rentan terkena dampak negatif dari penggunaan ponsel. Penelitian ini mengadopsi model yang dikembangkan oleh D.G. Seo et al. (2016) untuk melakukan analisis hubungan antara ketergantungan ponsel terhadap faktor-faktor yang mungkin terpengaruh akibat ketergantungan ponsel. Menggunakan sampel sebanyak 742 murid SMP di Surabaya, pengolahan data menggunakan Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) dengan analisis mediasi dilakukan. Hasilnya, diketahui bahwa terdapat hubungan langsung antara ketergantungan ponsel terhadap perhatian, depresi, hubungan sosial dengan teman, hubungan sosial dengan guru dan prestasi. Ketika diuji dengan hubungan tidak langsung, didapatkan hasil bahwa faktor depresi dapat menjadi mediator hubungan antara ketergantungan ponsel dan hubungan sosial dengan guru. Namun pengujian hubungan tidak langsung antara ketergantungan ponsel dan prestasi dengan faktor perhatian, depresi, hubungan sosial dengan teman dan hubungan sosial dengan guru tidak menunjukkan adanya hubungan tidak langsung tersebut, hal ini dikarenakan terdapat indikasi terjadinya faking dan social desirability. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut diketahui bahwa ketergantungan ponsel mengakibatkan efek yang negatif, baik itu pada hubungan pengaruh langsung maupun tidak langsung.

The rising usage of communication technology, particularly mobile phones, made people develop a high level of dependence. On their way toward adulthood, adolescents’ mindset are open to new things that are innovative more so than their parents, this makes them more vulnerable to the negative side-effects of mobile phone usage. This research adopts the model that was developed by D.G. Seo et al. (2016) which analyze the relationship between mobile phone dependence with the factors that might affect the causes of the dependence. Using a sample of 720 Junior High School students in Surabaya, data processing using Structural Equation Model (SEM) with mediation analysis was done. From the result, it is known that there exists a relationship between mobile phone dependency with attention, level of depression, social relationship with peers, social relationship with teachers and academic achievement. When tested with indirect relationship, the result obtained implies that depression factor can be the relationship mediator between mobile phone dependency and academic achievement. However, the indirect relationship tests done between mobile phone dependency and academic achievement with attention, depression, social relationship with peers and teachers did not show the indirect relationship that was previously implied. This is because there are indications of faking and social desirability occurring. Based on the results, it can be concluded that mobile phone dependency negatively affects, both on direct relationship and on indirect relationship.
