Abstract

Membran komposit yang terdiri dari campuran polimer kitosan (CS) dan polivinil alkohol (PVA) dengan variasi konsentrasi montmorilonit (MMT) sebagai filler telah berhasil dibuat. Kitosan yang digunakan dalam pembuatan membran memiliki derajat deasetilasi (DD) sebesar 74,21. Variasi konsentrasi montmorilonit yang digunakan, yaitu sebesar 2, 4, 6, dan 8. Membran komposit tersebut dibuat untuk mengetahui sifat mekanik dan termal pada empat variasi konsentrasi montmorilonit yang digunakan. Sifat-sifat membran yang dikarakterisasi adalah gugus fungsi, uji tarik untuk sifat mekanik, dan uji TGA untuk sifat termal. Penambahan MMT terhadap membran komposit CS-PVA menaikkan sifat termal dan mekanik secara signifikan. Penambahan variasi MMT terhadap membran komposit CS-PVA antara dua hingga 8 hanya memberikan pengaruh kecil terhadap uji tarik. ============================================================================================== Composite membrane composing of chitosan (CS) and polivinyl alcohol (PVA) as polymer and montmorilonit (MMT) as filler has been conducted succesfully. Chitosan was used in the making of the membrane had degree of deacetylation (DD) of 74,21. Montmorillonite concentration variation were 2, 4, 6 and 8. The composite membrane was made to determine thermal and mechanical properties using four montmorillonite concentration variation. The properties of the membrane were characterized by FTIR, tensile testing for mechanical properties, and TGA for thermal properties. Addition of MMT to the composite membrane increased thermal and mechanical properties significantly. Variations of MMT concentrations to the composite membrane between 2 until 8 only give minor influence to the tensile behaviour. Keywords: Chitosan, Polivinyl Alcohol, Montmorillonite, Membrane
