Abstract

========================================================================================================================
HF (High Frequency) Radar is used for observing ionosphere layer, where it transmits electromagnetic signal vertically in order to obtain information the quality of HF radio communication link. Indonesia’s large geographical area needs more HF Radar instruments that spread from east to west of Indonesian archipelago, however the instrumentations instaled are far from enough, such that the prediction of the quality of HF communication link can not be well established, then it is a need to design as a prototype of operational HF Radar. In this research, the bi-phase coded pulse compression e.g. Barker coded-pulse implemented on FPGA processor. Furthermore, the Radar design implemented using FPGA is investigated and applied in order to improve the overall performance. The designed Radar is used to measure the ionosphere layer over Sumedang area, West Java during the after noon time and night time. The observation of ionosphere dynamics gave the results that the Radar can detect the presence of E layer over Sumedang at height 101 – 112 km where it reflected the signal from 3 MHz to 5 MHz during after noon time. During night time the designed Radar confirms the deformation of E layer as well as detects the presence of F layer at height 554 km where the F layer reflected the signal from 6 MHz to 10 MHz.
