Abstract

The need of electricity is a basic need that must be met. For that, the good operation planning of power system is required to statisfied the load needed with a minimal price. However, in an operation of power system, it can’t be separated from a disturbance that leads to contingency which requires to outage the generator or the transmission line on the system. Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow is introduced to peform the operation planning of generation by considering the system security in the form of contingency on the line transmission in power system. Quadratic programming method is used to complete the optimization. Contingency can occur at specific time during the operation time in a day. Considering contingency can affect the generation and operation cost, the cost can be higher to 0.4% than the generation cost without considering contingency. When contingency occurs, generator must perform a re-dispatch to ensure all constraints satisfied, because of that it’s require generated adjustment to ensure, that re-dispatch doesn’t violate the ramp rate and line capacity. The addition of energy storage to the system effect the dispatch of the generator during the operation time. With the energy storage in the system can reduce the operating cost on the system up to 1.6% and help the ramp rate of the plant in meeting the contingency condition operating limits, as well as reduce the power flow of line in contingency up to 1.2%.
