Abstract

Pada proses pembuatan sponge iron terlebih dahulu mineral besi menjalani proses aglomerasi untuk menjadikannya bentuk pelet atau briket memakai zat pengikat (binder). Telah banyak penelitian mengenai pengaruh binder terhadap sifat mekanik pelet maupun briket. Namun penelitian mengenai sifat metalurgis seperti derajat reduksi serta morfologi produk yang dihasilkan belum diteliti lebih jauh. Pada penelitian ini akan diteliti pengaruh variasi jenis binder terhadap derajat reduksi dan morfologi briket pasir besi. Variasi binder untuk briket yang digunakan ialah bentonit, karboksimetilselulosa (CMC), dan kalsium hidroksida. Briket tersebut akan direduksi di dalam muffle furnace dengan pre-heat hingga 950 0C selama 2 jam dan holding pada temperatur 1350 0C selama 10 jam dan cooling di dalam muffle furnace selama 6 jam. Hasil dari proses reduksi ini akan diuji derajat metalisasi dan dikarakterisasi menggunakan XRD, dan SEM-EDX. Sementara nilai derajat reduksi diperoleh lewat perhitungan. Briket berbinder CMC memiliki derajat reduksi yang tertinggi sementara yang terendah adalah binder Ca(OH)2. Morfologi yang dihasilkan briket berbinder CMC adalah berbentuk flakes, binder Ca(OH) menghasilkan morfologi menyerupai spherical dan seluruh partikel nya menyatu, kemudian binder bentonit menghasilkan morfologi berbentuk spherical. ======================================================================================================================== In the sponge iron making, firtsly iron ore will through agglomeration process that using binder to form it into pellet or briquette form.There are many studies about effect of binder on pellet or briqquette mechanical properties but a study about effect of binder on the metallurgical properties such as degree of reduction and final product morphology have not studied yet. In this research the effect of variation of binder on reduction degree and morphology of ironsand briquette will be investigated. Binders variation which will be used in this research are carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), bentonite, and hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2). Ironsand briquette will be reduced in muffle furnace with pre-heat in 950 0C for 2 hours and hold in temperature 1350 0C for 10 hours and furnace cooling for 6 hours. The product from this reduction process will be tested degree of metallization and will be characterized with XRD and SEM-EDX, then reduction degree will be obtained from calculation. Briquette that use CMC binder have the highest reduction degree and the lowest is briquette that use Ca(OH)2 binder. Briquette with CMC binder has a flakes like morphology, briquette with Ca(OH)2 binder has a spherical like morphology with the entire particles bind each other.
