Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan data kesetimbangan uap-cair (VLE) sistem terner isotermal dietil karbonat+isooktana+etanol dan dietil karbonat+toluena+etanol pada rentang temperatur 303.15–323.15 K yang akurat. Peralatan eksperimen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah ebulliometer sederhana yang dikembangkan oleh Oktavian et al., Fuel 107(2013) 47-51. Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan lagi validasi alat dan metodenya dengan membandingkan tekanan uap murni dietil karbonat (DEC), isooktana, toluena, dan etanol dengan data literatur. Dari hasil validasi, diperoleh average absolute deviation (AAD) tekanan uap murni berturut-turut sebesar 1.7, 0.9, 1.2 dan 0.8%. Penambahan DEC ke dalam campuran isooktana+etanol dan toluena+etanol mampu menurunkan tekanan uap campuran secara signifikan. Data eksperimen dibandingkan dengan hasil prediksi model Wilson, NRTL, UNIQUAC dimana pasangan interaksi parameter biner dioptimasi hanya dari VLE data biner memberikan AAD berturut-turut sebesar 4.0, 3.9 dan 1.4% untuk sistem dietil karbonat+isooktana+etanol, dan 5.0, 4.5 dan 3.3% untuk sistem dietil karbonat+toluena+etanol. Data eksperimen juga dibandingkan dengan model prediksi menggunakan grup konstribusi model UNIFAC, memberikan AAD sebesar 1.4 dan 6.8% berturut-turut untuk sistem dietil karbonat+isooktana+etanol dan dietil karbonat+toluena +etanol. =========================================================================================== The objective of this work was to measure isothermal ternary vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) for diethyl carbonate + isooctane + ethanol and diethyl carbonate + toluene + ethanol systems at the temperature range of 303.15 – 323.15 K. The experimental apparatus used in this work was simple ebulliometer as developed by Oktavian et al., Fuel 107 (2012) 47-51. In this work, the validation of the apparatus and method were checked by comparing the measured vapor pressure of pure diethyl carbonate, isooctane, toluene, and ethanol with the literature data giving average absolute deviation (AADs) of 1.7, 0.9, 1.2 and 0.8%, respectively. The addition of DEC into isooctane + ethanol and toluene + ethanol mixtures was capable of reducing the vapor pressure significantly. The experimental data were compared to the prediction results of Wilson, NRTL, UNIQUAC models where binary interaction parameter pairs were fitted from binary VLE data only giving AADs of 4.0, 3.9 and 1.4%, respectively for diethyl carbonate + isooctane + ethanol system and 5.0, 4.5 and 3.3%, respectively for diethyl carbonate + toluene + ethanol system . The experimental data were compare with predictive UNIFAC group contribution model as well giving AADs of 1.4 and 6.8% for diethyl carbonate + isooctane + ethanol and diethyl carbonate + toluene + ethanol systems, respectively.
