Abstract

Fish farming with floating cages is one of the form of fish farming that can be conducted at
rivers, lakes or seas. In order to determine a proper location for fish farming floating cages,
there are some requirements that need to be fulfilled to maintain s
ustainibility of floating cages.
Those requirements are quality and environment of waters. Therefore, we need to analyze a
location to determine whether the location are suitable for fish farming with having regard to
the requirements. This final project w
ill discuss the fertility of waters with satellite images
interpretation from Aqua MODIS Level 1b with determining the concentration of chlorophyll
-
a, sea surface temperature and suitability classification from every aspect of requirements that
will determ
ined with Weighted Overlay method based on field information in March and
October 2016 with geographic information system approach that take place on Prigi Bay,
Trenggalek Regency, East Java. Based on analysis of satellite images,
The result
s
of spatial
an
alysis shows that the Gulf of Prigi region is generally suitable for cultivation of floating net
cages. The result of weighted overlay combinations in both periods showed a mean score of
2.18 from scal

" area of
8.33 k
m2 (23.13% of the water area)
and for the "very suitable" category of width 27.67 km2 (76.87% of water area). While the
most suitable locations of the 10 sampling points are stations 5, 6 and 10.
