Abstract

Penggunaan baja sebagai bahan baku pipa di industri minyak dan gas dikarenakan beberapa keunggulannya, yaitu sifat mekanik yang baik, fabrikasi yang mudah, dan harga lebih ekonomis. Namun, baja dapat mengalami suatu penurunan kualitas, dan salah satu faktor penurunan kualitas baja adalah peristiwa korosi. Hal ini dikarenakan saat proses pengoperasiannya, pipeline kerap terekspos lingkungan yang korosif. Untuk itu semua bagian pipa harus mendapatkan proteksi korosi. Coating dapat menjadi salah satu cara mencegah korosi eksternal pada pipa. Untuk melindungi sambungan pada pipa dikenal teknologi coating sambungan pipa atau field joint coating (FJC). Salah satu faktor keberhasilan field joint coating adalah proses persiapan permukaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh proses blasting terhadap kekuatan adhesi pada tahap proses persiapan permukaan field joint coating. Metode pengujian adhesi ini membandingkan spesimen dengan proses persiapan blasting (near white metal), Power tool cleaning, dan Hand tool cleaning. Dari pengujian adhesi (peel test) pada tiap joint pipa didapatkan nilai adhesi pada spesimen proses Near White Metal sebesar 2,86 N/mm. Sedangkan nilai adhesi pada spesimen proses Power Tool Cleaning dan Hand Tool Cleaning berturut-turut adalah 2,14 N/mm dan 1,48 N/mm. Dari hasil pengujian dapat disimpulkan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat kebersihan dan kekasaran maka kekuatan adhesinya semakin baik.

The use of steel as a raw material pipe in the oil and gas industry, it is because of several advantage, namely excellent mechanical properties, easy to fabricate, and more economical. However, the steel may experience a deterioriation, and one of the factors is corrosion. This is because during the process of operation, pipeline often exposed to a corrosive environment. All of pipe’s part must obtain corrosion protection. Coating can be the way of preventing external corrosion on the pipe. To protect the joint of the pipe, there is coating technology known as field joint coating (FJC). One of the success factors of the field joint coating is the surface preparation process. This study aims to determine the effect of blasting process towards the adhesion strength on field joint coating. The adhesion testing (peel test) methods compare specimens with Near White Metal, Power Tool Cleaning, and Hand Tool Cleaning surface preparation. From the experiments, the adhesion strength of Near White Metal specimen is 2.86 N/mm. Meanwhile, the adhesion strength of Power Tool Cleaning & Hand Tool Cleaning specimens was 2.14 N/mm and 1.48 N/mm respectively. From the adhesion test can be conclueded that the higher level of cleanliness and roughness of the specimen, then the adhesion strength is better.
