Abstract

============================================================
Corrosion in the splash zone area has a very high corrosion rate. So it needs barrier / coating that is very good to be the protector of the material. But the coating technique is not free from the problems, that 80% due to surface preparation. Poor surface preparation process more time making a splash zone area become the most corrosive areas for the material. Corrosion itself is the result of material damage through a spontaneous chemical or electrochemical reaction that causes a decrease in the quality of the material. On offshore platforms are often encountered in defects due to being hit by a leaning ship or during jacket launch. Defects that occur resulting in damage to the coating layer that serves as a barrieror a protective order is not quickly corroded material. So that needs to be holding a research Influence of Defects coating and salinity in the splash zone area. This research is an experiment using ASTM 36 test material where this material is often used as foot jacket. Material will be prepared in advance with abrasive material manifold Steel Grid and continued with the coating process, then do mutilations. After the salt spray test done with a salinity of 40 ‰, 50 ‰, and 60 ‰. From this research produced material that roughness due to the abrasive material will be undertaken on the blasting process affects the thickness of the coating that is attached to the material. The highest roughness value is 116 μm with coating thickness 352,3 μm. The results of the salt spray test showed that the coating without disabilities have very low corrosion rate in all salinity with outstanding category. The rate of corrosion coating without defect with salinity 40 ‰, 50 ‰, and 60 ‰ were 0.022 mpy, 0.064 mpy, and 0.136 mpy respectively. The results of the salt spray test, the corrosion rate of coatings with one scratch defect at salinity 40 ‰, 50 ‰, and 60 ‰ were 30,381 mpy, 48,167 mpy, and 77,442 mpy respectively. From salt spray testing, the corrosion rate of coatings with two scratch defects in salinity 40 ‰, 50 ‰, and 60 ‰ were 44,320 mpy, 75,407 mpy, and 105,012 mpy, respectively.
